I wanted a Film Festival that represented Spain, at the time I wanted a film festival that was based on the Canary archipelago, and of course, what better name than "Magma" that gives rise to the impossible volcanic activity of the islands. On a thematic/cinematic level, MAGMA emits a platform that represents provocative cinema, with a socio-political agenda, it may be that purely on a scriptural level it is an epic script and film, packed with action/drama/suspense. Really, the genre doesn't matter, but the festival wants to find + promote the most explosive/provocative films of the year, is also visually represented in a volcanic way with high-contrasts/garish colors, but prestige remains central to this vibrant brand.
